The prime time to fish here is all summer – well not quite, but since we fish three areas there is usually somewhere to catch salmon and halibut. Most recommended times are December to June for the feeder Chinooks and some halibut starting to show in Ucluelet around mid May May – September for Halibut in Ucluelet and large numbers of Chinook(King) salmon.(they run all summer). July  – September 10 in Ucluelet for large Kings July, August and September for Coho in Ucluelet Ucluelet has been very hot the last few years and is expected to continue for this year. If you are trying to decide what time in the summer to come, any time between May and September is good. While June, July and August are peak months, September and October can still see good action as well. Many people are concerned about catching fish, so one thing to note about Ucluelet is that it is not like some other areas that have really slow times and really good times. We have a large area to choose from and there are so many fish travelling past, that you almost always have a good shot of a good days fishing, whether coming in May, June, July, August or September. Ucluelet, BC Right now…. Salmon fishing this past week continues to be very good. We are still getting some nice fish and have been lucky enough to get 4 out of the 5 fish entered in the local salmon derby. Chinook salmon are averaging a great size for this time of year! Most are coming in at 12-15 lbs with a few up to 25 lbs. . Right now you have more trouble figuring out what not to use. We are getting both Chinook and Halibut around the Long Beach bank area as well a few around Great Bear and Alley Rock again. Some days are just nuts with our guides hooking into 30-50 salmon per 8 hour trip! Crabbing is also doing very well and this makes a great touch to a nice seafood basket! We are getting prawns and crab as well on our 6 hour and 8 hour trips. Early season fishing often get a more diverse basket of seafood and the salmon are closer to shore, so this makes early season trips a great deal for any hungry fisherman. Crab fishing is often best in April, May and June.
