Kris Martin’s essay on respect for fish includes some choice quotes from Norman McLean and Ernest Hemingway (“Somebody just back of you while you are fishing is as bad as someone looking over your shoulder while you write a letter to your girl.”). “I’ve got this perfect pool of water I like to fish. It’s calm and easy-flowing. It meanders through town and I’m very familiar with it. I know all the rocks and pebbles, all the overhanging branches, the sunken trees and the other obstacles. It takes a bit of work to navigate, but once I’m there the fish are waiting.” In Vermont’s Times Argus .
