The comment about numerous guides on the Kenai is amusing to the point of being a huge understatement. The truth from my vantage point, 20 years on the Kenai, is that the river is degrading as a fishery. Far too many guides and private boats. One Tuesday morning in the July “madness”, 217 boats, the majority guide boats, were in the approx. 15 river miles from Sunken Island to the Kenai City Dock. Multiply that by 4 anglers per guide boat and you get a picture of something less than a an ideal angling experience. The frequency of trophy fish has significantly decline. Anyone considering that one in a lifetime experience should weigh all options in other Alaska and British Columbia venues that offer river and/or saltwater fishing experiences.
