New Fish Care or Carp Care Video

As I mentioned in an earlier entry we have been doing some filming and testing out the Nash Monster Cradle. To be honest the Cradle is a monster so it does take up a fair bit of space in your car. It is however a fantastic bit of Carp care booty and it´s something which every Carper should have. Actually in a recent session this cradle saved fish damage which would have occured had we been using as previous a normal Beni Matt. I say this as the lake we fished on for Comizo Barbel was especially rocky and as a result between the rocks you could find a place for a traditional matt but this wouldnt have been much use as because of the steep incline the fish could have easily slipped off the matt. As it happened this was not the case and so therefore all the fish we caught we kept safe and un-damaged. Anyway, I wont go into that story too much as it´s another event. I should rewind and drag your eye´s onto the new video or rather other video I made whilst out filming recently with the team. As I said before this film features a lovely Mirror Carp of over 16kg. an old friend of mine. In the video I show one way to hold the carp or a way to grip onto the dorsal fin of the fish. Of course there are other ways and if the fish has a spiney dorsal then perhaps it´s better to cup the whole of the dorsal. Either way I hope you and the Spanish Anglers reading this and viewing our videos find it of interest. More coming soon.

Leeds winter league. Raker Lakes.

Raker Lakes. (Horseshoe lake.) Saturday saw myself and 16 other angler tackle the Horseshoe lake at a fishery called Raker lakes nr York. The lake averages around 6ft in the middle and 2ft to the far bank. The lake has a good stock of both carp and silverfish which normally feed rather well at this time of year. My match plan was to fish 13m down the middle with maggot and caster for silverfish and then to fish 17m with corn and caster to target the big chub and carp. This plan ended up being change as the peg I draw was not the best area for carp and chub. I draw peg 19 which was 18m wide and virtually featureless apart from an ariater 13m to my left. For the first two hours I lose fed caster to the far bank and fished over them with a 4×10 KC Carpa Chimp which was on 0.12-0.10 silstar line with a size 20 B911 hook, so nothing complicated. I was also feeding two lines at 13m one up to the ariater and one straight in front of me, up to the aerator I fed a golf ball sized ball of micro pellets with 3 grains of corn, a few caster and a few maggots. The line straight in front of me was my ’silverfish’ line so to speak which was fed very negatively with just a few maggots every 5 minuets fed through a toss pot as the fish were very finicky and shy biters. 2 hours into the match I’d had 5 small roach on caster at 17m and with no signs of any chub around me being caught I decided to rest it and go down the track which was also slow to get started. After 1 hour down the track I’d had a dozen small roach so not much difference in the far bank line, but it didn’t matter as no one around me was catching either. Suddenly as the water warmed up the fish got going and I started to put a few better fish in the net with a 12oz chub and 6 6oz skimmers so I’d trebled my weight. The lad to my left then had good run of fish which all averaged 6oz at the smallest. I plugged away down the middle for the rest of the match and ended up with a good 10lb 4oz which was enough for my section and 3 rd in match. The winner came off peg 24 where young Adam Miller had a brilliant 29lb 14oz of small stocky carp and chub.

Walleye Fishing in the Summer Months

Crankbaits and slip-sinkers are great walleye fishing lures to use during the summer months, after typical feeding patterns have been established and water and air temperatures are high. Before the summer season the summer peak occurs, when fish are at their most aggressive and some of the best fishing of the year can take place. Pre-summer, walleyes are shifting from their spawning areas to their summertime locations.

The Truth About Feltless Soles

Want the truth about “sticky rubber” soles? Phil Monahan lays it bare in this week’s Fine Lines column. “Just because you eschew felt,” he says, “does not make you some sort of environmental hero.” Question: “I’m looking to buy a new pair of wading boots, and I want to know if I should buy ones with the new feltless soles. I think it’s important to help the environment, but I don’t wanna drown. Are they really as good as felt? ”
