Wild fishing
The alarm sounded and unlike a work day it was easy to get out of bed. The swim would I imagined, be full of big Tench feeding after my groundwork from the previous evening….Well maybe not full but just one fish would be a reward. I arrived at 5am and was relieved to see my spot empty. The odd fish roled has I made my first cast. Everything looked perfect and on Q my float slipped away the strike though was without luck. I just hoped my chance had not slipped away in those few seconds. A re-cast and almost before the float settled away it sailed, this time the strike was met by a solid “Bang” and the line peeled off the reel,a good fish. It gave a good acount of itself the previous nights work had payed off. A nice fish of 6.2lb.I will be back for one of the big ones!

Fishing Report Ucluelet April 25, 2011
Fishing Report April 25, 2011, Fishing around Great Bear has started to pick up for feeder Chinooks. There are also some Chinook being caught around Sail Rock, however our boats have been generally fishing with good success around Great Bear. There is lots of needlefish around and that is a very good sign for things to come. Needlefish are a small narrow bait that is rich in fat content. Salmon seem to really enjoy feeding on this small bait and you can generally count on having good early season fishing with lots of needlefish hanging around. Most of the Chinook caught this time of year are between 7-15lbs, however you can get them up to 30lbs as well. We expect great things for 2011 in the area of large Chinook (King) salmon. This year is going to see many 4-5 year salmon returning and we are excited. 4-5 year salmon often mean that you are getting more salmon in the 25-45lb range. This always makes the anticipation great! Halibut limits have been set to the same as last year at 1 per day and 2 as your carrying limit. Randy and Sarah Andrashewski and sons April 18, 2011 Chinook 12-18 lbs Don and Linda Macdonald with Chinook 15-23 lbs April 19, 2011 Darcy Leavitt group April 20, 2011 with 8 Chinook salmon Matt Harrison with dad Wayne April 22, 2011 Crabbing is good this time of year! Tippets: Kaufman’s Closes, Tom Dorsey Back at T&T, “Endangered Species” Paralysis
Readers have reported to us this week that they were unable to reach any of the Kaufman’s Streamborn stores in Washington state, and a Washington Fly Fishing post says that Kaufman’s has shut their doors . Zach Matthews, who interviewed Thomas & Thomas’s new owner, Mark Richey, on Wednesday, reports that rod designer Tom Dorsey will rejoin the team . The New York Times reports on a story that is all too familiar to those tasked with Endangered Species enforcement: the number of petitions received has far outstripped the program’s ability to process them .
